On March 9, 2023, Newfoundland and Labrador amended the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Regulations under the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act. This amendment introduces several updates designed to enhance clarity and reflect current organizational structures within the public sector.

Some of the key amendments include:

      • The regulation modifies Section 2 by substituting the term “his or her” with “the employee’s.” This change aims to standardize language across the regulations, improving consistency and clarity in the way compensation information is presented.
      • Amendments to Sections 7 and 7.1 replace the term “his or her” with “a.” This adjustment streamlines the process for applying time limits related to the reporting of compensation for public sector employees, thus simplifying compliance and administrative procedures.
      • The Schedule, which lists organizations governed by these regulations, has been revised as follows:
      • Added Organizations: “Celebrate NL Inc.” and “Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation” are now included in the Schedule.
      • Removed Organizations: The references to “Innovation and Business Investment Corporation,” “Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Care Plan,” “NL 911 Bureau Inc.,” and “Student Loan Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador” have been deleted.

The primary objective of these amendments is aimed at improving the precision and relevance of the Public Sector Compensation Transparency Regulations. Through updating the language and organizational references, the amendments aim to accurately reflect the current public sector landscape. The revisions are intended to support clear, consistent, and up-to-date reporting practices, aligning with modern organizational structures and reporting requirements.
