The Chief Electoral Officer of Canada issued an official notice under subsection 93(3) of the Canada Elections Act announcing the determination of the number of electors listed on the preliminary lists for each electoral district in anticipation of the upcoming general election.

The Atlantic provinces, Newfoundland and Labrador’s (418,220) seven districts show elector counts ranging from approximately 19,896 in Labrador to nearly 70,000 in Avalon and Long Range Mountains. Prince Edward Island (122,731) has four districts with elector numbers varying between 27,448 in Charlottetown and 32,534 in Malpeque. Nova Scotia’s (892,957) eleven districts tend to have larger electorates, with Dartmouth-Cole Harbour having the most at 82,855 and others such as Kings—Hants and Sackville—Bedford—Preston also exceeding 79,000. In New Brunswick’s (635,500) ten districts, voter counts vary from 51,578 in Miramichi—Grand Lake to 76,895 in Beauséjour.

Quebec (7,842,325) has a wide spread in elector numbers across its seventy-eight districts. Several districts exceed 90,000 electors, such as Montcalm, Shefford, and Rivière-du-Nord. Some districts, particularly in more remote or northern areas like Nunavik—Eeyou and Côte-Nord—Kawawachikamach—Nitassinan, typically are in the 60,000 to 70,000 range.

Ontario (11,918,643) has one hundred and twenty-two districts and as the most populous province, with some of the highest elector counts, including Niagara South with 111,834 electors, Sarnia—Lambton—Bkejwanong with 105,763, and several others in the high 90,000s and low 100,000s such as Chatham-Kent—Leamington, Kingston and the Islands, and Windsor—Tecumseh—Lakeshore.

Manitoba (968,195) across its fourteen districts has elector counts mostly in the 60,000 to 75,000 range, though Churchill—Keewatinook Aski has notably fewer at 47,677. Saskatchewan (755,418) has fourteen districts as well and follows a similar pattern, with elector numbers ranging between 53,000 and 68,000, except for the northern riding of Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River, which lists only 23,996 electors. Alberta’s (2,861,070) thirty-seven districts listing elector counts in the high 80,000s to mid-90,000s, such as Calgary Midnapore (97,841) and Lethbridge (93,700).

British Columbia (3,647,519) has forty-three districts with a broad range of elector numbers. Urban and suburban areas such as Courtenay—Alberni (107,147), Cowichan—Malahat—Langford (103,861), and North Island—Powell River (108,490) top the list, while rural or more remote areas like Skeena—Bulkley Valley and Surrey Newton report fewer than 70,000 electors.

In Canada’s northern territories, elector numbers are much smaller due to the sparse population having only one district per territory—Yukon reports 30,302, Northwest Territories has 29,858, and Nunavut lists 21,319 electors.
